Meet The

Millers

OUR STORY

Located in the heart of Amish country in Middlebury, Indiana, we are a small, family run business that started out as a sawmill and dry kiln operation. In the beginning, we focused our efforts entirely on providing quality kiln dried lumber for the weekend warrior or small woodworking shops.

In 2011 my wife Rachel developed an interest in doing scroll work. For a number of years she, along with my oldest son Jared (Jared ran the scrollsaw)  made wooden animal puzzles that we then took to craft shows in our area. At that point I had my "corners" full of boards that were too short to market and it presented the perfect opportunity for her to use material that was bound for the stove.

In early 2014 I decided to join her in her venture...I still had the sawmill and the dry kiln and lumber customers. We were at the point where I either needed to hire someone to run the mill or someone to help her in her venture.

It was with a measure of sadness that I sold the mill. Fortunately we are now working as a husband/wife team along with our family full time in the arts and craft business.

In 2015 we opened a retail store in our original sawmill building. We opened our shop to bus tours and tour groups. (everyone is welcome to walk the shop and observe our current projects)This has been very rewarding! We have had people from as far away as New Zealand, and many places in between, stop in and tour our shop!

Although we mostly focused our efforts in the beginning on crafting animal puzzles and nativity sets, we also started making Monroe Dutcher style baskets. These baskets are unusual in the way that they are designed and fairly sturdy. They are practical in the sense that they are very functional.

We are ideally located less than 1/2 mile north of Rise-n-Roll Bakery, and about a mile south of the Heritage Ridge Creamery. In addition, if you are biking the Pumpkinvine Bike Trail, and decide to take a side trip to the bakery, you can also stop by and eat your donuts in our shop! We are about four miles from the famous Shipshewana Flea Market. If you come to the market for a day trip it is almost "on your way" to stop at our shop...

All of our baskets are personally signed by Rachel (My wife) and Miriam (My youngest sister) , numbered and have the date that they were crafted on the bottom. Our baskets are custom made with cherry, oak, walnut and purple heart. They range in price from $25.00 - $60.00. If you custom order please allow several weeks for delivery.

We would love to share our work with you, come visit us!
